本套书籍共分十卷，编辑历时六年之久。全书力争囊括敦煌的所有艺术门类，包括：敦煌壁画、敦煌雕塑、敦煌绘画、敦煌丝绸、敦煌印染织物、俄藏敦煌文献、敦煌汉文遗书等。目前市面所出版的敦煌类图书，大致收录的为壁画兼顾彩塑，并没有全面展示敦煌美术之全貌，此书的出版正是填补了敦煌美术出版之空白。本书以艺术的门类体裁分卷，各卷以时间先后顺序而编排，主要以敦煌莫高窟开创期和鼎盛期，具有极高艺术价值的作品为主。该书的出版引领读者深入了解敦煌石窟的历史文化与艺术成就，体验到敦煌石窟艺术创建者高超的技艺与匠心。

The book strives to cover all art categories of Dunhuang, including: Dunhuang murals, Dunhuang sculptures, Dunhuang paintings, Dunhuang silk, Dunhuang printed and dyed fabrics, Russian Dunhuang documents, Dunhuang Chinese posthumous writings, etc. The Dunhuang books currently published in the market generally include murals and painted sculptures, but do not fully display the whole picture of Dunhuang art. The publication of this book just fills the gap in Dunhuang art publication. This book is divided into volumes according to the genre of art, and each volume is arranged in chronological order, mainly focusing on works with extremely high artistic value during the founding period and heyday of Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang.
